Create a Contact Page with Contact Form 7 in WordPress
If you have a WordPress website, having a contact form is a valuable addition to the website that allows users to give feedback or send queries via the form. While there are many plugins for WordPress that allow you to add a contact form to one of your website's pages, Contact Form 7 is a free, easy-to-use and extremely popular WordPress plugin which can be used for this purpose. In this article, we will guide you on how to create a Contact Page with Contact Form 7 in WordPress.
Installation of Contact Form 7
Installing the Contact Form 7 plugin is the usual procedure. To install the plugin follow the steps mentioned below.
Log into your WordPress Dashboard
Go to 'Plugins > Add New' and search for the plugin 'Contact Form 7' as shown in Figure 1.
Click 'Install Now' and then click on 'Activate' to install and activate the plugin and you are done with the installation. You can now use it.
Create a Contact Form
To create a Contact Form, follow the steps mentioned below.
Click on 'Contact > Contact Forms' from the WordPress Dashboard as shown in Figure 2. There is a listing of the forms available.
Note: Contact Form 7 comes preconfigured with one form already set up to use. The basic fields needed for any contact form are already present in the form - Name, Email, Subject, Message and Submit button. You can add more fields from the ones available as per your requirement and click on the 'Save' button to save the form as shown in Figure 3.
Add Email Notifications
After creating the design of the form, you can set up the email in the next tab titled 'Mail'. To do so follow the steps mentioned below.
Edit the 'To:' field to change the email address that you want the submissions to be sent to. The fields on the form can be used using their tags enclosed in square braces. The usable tags are listed on top as shown in Figure 4.
Click on 'Save' once you are done.
You can also customize the messages that are displayed. The default Messages can be seen in the next tab 'Messages' as shown in Figure 5.
Click on 'Save' after finishing all customizations.
Create a Contact Page
Now that the form is created, you have to place this form on a page on your website. To do so, follow the steps mentioned below.
Click on 'Pages > Add New' from the WordPress Dashboard as shown in Figure 6.
In the Page editor, type a title for example 'Contact'. Paste the Shortcode given against your contact form that you had created. in the previous section into the body of the page and 'Publish' the page as shown in Figure 6.
Add Contact Page to the Main Menu
Now that you have created a contact form and then placed it in a page, you will have to place it in your menu so that your users can actually use it. To do so, follow the steps mentioned below.
From the WordPress Dashboard, go to 'Appearance > Menus' as shown in Figure 7.
Choose the Header menu and add the page you created to this menu. Check against the page and click on 'Add to Menu' as shown in Figure 8.
Click on the 'Save Menu' button. Visit your website to see if your Contact page is present on your menu. Click on the menu item to see your Contact page as shown in Figure 8.
Try using it to verify if it works. Enter a name, email and a message. On submission, if you get a message like 'Your message was sent successfully. Thanks.' (The default message, which can be changed in Messages tab), then your form works.
Head to the inbox of the email address that you provided to see if this submission reached your inbox.
